ARRIVING
Ben Tre town has grown in recent years, its more modern areas reaching out to meet the under-construction four-lane road between the My Tho ferry and Ben Tre town (Highway 60). Coming via the My Tho ferry, veer left at the first traffic circle in Ben Tre town, then continue straight past the next to reach the center via – shady at last! – Dong Khoi St (past the giant socialist monument). Eventually Dong Khoi St meets the market, where a wood bridge for pedestrians leads over Ben Tre River.

There’s INTERNET ACCESS (192 Hung Vuong St; 2000D/hr), a couple blocks west of Hung Vuong Hotel.
TRAVEL INFORMATION
Staff at the state-run BEN TRE TOURIST (tel 075-829-618; 65 Dong Khoi St) look stunned when the rare foreigner ambles in wondering about boat trips or renting a bike. They can do both (though you’re probably better off with touts). Boats cost 70,000D per hour, bikes are 20,000D per hour, a Ben Tre province map is 20,000D.
